Catawba Brewing Company has come a long way since the day it was founded inside a Glen Alpine basement. Now distributing beer to five states, Catawba Brewing is growing and Marks was able to provide custom tanks at roughly 11,000 pounds in support of this expansion project.
Each tank has a capacity of 240 barrels, but Catawba will use the tanks at a capacity around 200 barrels, Co-owner Billy Pyatt said. The largest tank the brewery previously had was 120 barrels, and each barrel is roughly 31 gallons. The brewery currently produces about 20,000 barrels per year. But after an additional two tanks are installed in about two weeks, the four new tanks will increase capacity to about 30,000 barrels.
Pyatt said that based on projected numbers, the tanks will help put Catawba in the top 150 breweries in the country for capacity.
“But that’s not really how we measure ourselves,” Pyatt said. “I don’t really sit there and say I want to be this guy, this guy or this guy. What I want to do is be able to grow and support the markets that want our beer.”
“It really means a lot for us to be able to create some economic benefit for this area,” Pyatt said. “And we’re going to continue to do it. We’re sons of the mountains, and we’re going to be right here.”
